I have a customer with one user who is a really slow dialler, it can take this user 10 seconds to dial a single telephone number. The customer only has SIP which means this user cannot make phone calls as the system times out before they dial the full number.

I have Dial Delay time at 2 secs, do not really want to make this higher as it obviously affects all, and dial delay count set to 4, which is the extension length on site.

Users can dial either numbers beginning with 0 for national (11 digits), or 8, 7 and 3 for London calls (8 digits) - this user will not make any internal calls ever.

I am trying to find a simple solution to allow this user to make calls.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

dial delay on 4 seconds should not be a problem, you just need to adjust your ARS (if you are in North America that is)
create shortcodes that specify the number of digits that the User will dial.
xxxxxxxxxx
dial
N
line ID

1xxxxxxxxxx
dial
1N
Line ID

0N;
dial
0N
Line ID

these are the main ones that will allow local, LD and international calls

if you have 811, 311, 310xxxx etc numbers then you need to add those to the ARS as well.

If you are in Europe where there is no fixed lenght for numbers then you are out of luck as far as I can tell and the only option is to really increase the timer to 4 seconds and people in a hurry can hit # after they are finished

Thanks for the replies. This is in the UK, so numbers are either 10 or 11 for national and 8 for local. Then you have the completely varying international calls lengths as well.

I am not sure the user will ever dial internationally, but cannot be sure.

I think I will add an extra second to the dial delay timer and see how it goes.

I always use 0 for dial delay time and 4 for dial delay count.
Then for SIP use a ; in the dial shortcode.
If this dialing takes longer then this 4 seconds then it is a provider issue.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I would create a separate ARS table for that user named "disabled" and set the dial delay time there on 15 seconds.
Then in the users shortcode list add a shortcode 9N/N/51:disabled/dial
In ARS a shortcode N;/N/line group/Dial
The user always has the option to dial a # at the end of the number to speed up dialling.
