Slow Crystal Reports in GoldMine with ODBC

As a background: I've written many, many reports in Crystal for GoldMine over the years but only recently started using the ODBC linkage so I might not have it all setup correctly but I followed the insturctions in the EXCELLENT Crystal for GoldMine books written by Lila Brown...

The Problem: Reports are taking 10 to 15 minutes, or longer to run. As a rule these reports have subreports which may be slowing them down. An example of a report that takes forever to run is one I wrote like GoldMines standard Contact History All report, where it shows Contact1 data, then Profile, History, Cal, and Notes data. This report written in Crystal is taking at least 15 minutes to run on a DBase system with just 2500 records.

Suggestions? Help?

Thanks,

Don Edds

Don,

If you've got a lot of subreports regarding things like history (or mailbox) then it will take some time as it tends to scan these subreport databases multiple time. You should also try and ensure that the link criteria is based on an indexed field (generally this is true for GoldMine).

Try not to use subreports and alter the grouping and linking mechanisms within Crystal.

Richard.
