I have one server (SERVER1) that has a slow connection to a couple of other servers (SERVER2 & SERVER3). I try to do a network backup from SERVER1 backing up the other servers and it is incredibly slow (5Mb/m). If I run a backup from SERVER4 backing up SERVER2 and SERVER3 it runs at 600Mb/m. Everything looks correct: 100Mbps, Full Duplex. Here is the weird part when I copy stuff from other servers (SERVER5 & SERVER6) to SERVER1 the network speed is fine. Any ideas?

hi ,

all the servers are in the same subnet ?
are they all connected on the same switch ?

In the ethernet forum I have a FAQ on why full duplex should never be used with a unmanaged switch, you may want to check it out

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Sounds like a duplex problem.

If you force duplex on one side, you MUST force the duplex on the other.

We have found many cases where servers that have been forced to full duplex have reverted to auto after a reboot. The duplex must be checked after every reboot.

Some NIC cards report they are doing full duplex in the GUI, but are not really doing full duplex.

I hate to say it, but sometimes Auto on both ends of the connection is the safest way to go.

Yes either auto or half if it is a unmanaged switch, only if you can lock the duplex on the port in the switch can you safely choose full.
