There is this computer that is running at a speed of 167 KPBS while the other computer is running at 899 Kpbs in a 1 Meg SDSL LAN setting in a office

Yeap both are running XP professional OS computer.

I try matching setting on NIC setting for both computer and it was the same.

Is this a simultaneous download? Cause that could be the problem if you consider overhead. If not, then you should check the wiring. John D. Saucier

John,

Probably not, because the computer have no application running. I was able to remote assistance into her computer and check all the setting. I have one user in the same office tested the bandwidth speed and it show up 866kpbs while this one shows up at 285kbps. I heard this may due to QOS or that the NIC card was not configure properly. I am not sure. yes, it maybe a bad cable. That would be my second solution.

I would disable QOS I haven't found a use for it. I've heard it can be useful but not unless you are running a huge network with a lot of different network speeds. It could be the NIC but even if it were a 10-base-T and not 10/100 it would still be under the speed of the connection, and wouldn't create this problem. It could be the wiring, however try replacing the NIC and see if it makes a difference. In Windows XP there isn't much to the NIC configuration.
