I haven't seen much going on in the cabling forum so I can only assume you guys are all on vacation, drinking little umbrella drinks, catching a tan on the beach this week, while I am slaving.

Good for you guys. You work hard and deserve it.

Just think about me and maybe have one for me too.

(Or it could be you are all like me and up to your butt in alligators’)

Have a GOOD week guys.

Mike

Most of the sites I participate in are a bit slower than usual. Things will probably pick up beginning in September.

In talking with some of my vendors, they can't even keep stock right now they are so busy. Cables are leaving faster than they can get them in. I have been through about 50,000 in the last 6 weeks and ordering another 10,000 today.

We have been busy needless to say.

I wonder if people are also stocking up on cable to avoid being nicked by further price increases. [ponder]

Speaking of pricing issues, pricing is getting stupid compared to 5 years ago. I usually buy from ADI, but use Home Depot in a pinch when out of area. They have all jacked their copper cabling pricing. Now quotes are being effected by both gas and cable pricing.

Anyone think wirless will become cheaper and more stable than hardwire and push more networks to being wireless??

I think there will always be a need for copper wire. Even wireless hardware needs some amount of wiring to connect to a network.

Due to the huge need for copper in countries like India and China and the high cost of petroleum-based products, I think that the price for wire will be elevated for the foreseeable future.

I agree with Dexman. At one point I thought that wireless was going to put me out of business, but it's not going to happen. Wireless solutions will only support X amount of users and that is not going to be enough ever, as i see it.

Oh and I bought 5E 350 plenum rated copper for $213.00 a box this week. Not bad compared to what it has been going for.

I was visiting a near-by Home Depot this past Saturday and saw 2 boxes of 2-pair CAT 3 cable on a shelf. I know that type of cable is, for the most part, obsolete and off the market, but it still very much usable.

Needless to say, those 2 boxes are no longer on that shelf. [sunshine]

I miss JKT. They don't make anything that good anymore in a two pair.

I think this cable was made by General Cable. Actually, I tend to gravitate towards Systimax products.

Why worry about wireless? I is so dadgum slow that a 'wired' network will never be replaced. Those that go to a wireless net are cutting performance for cost.

I went back to the Home Depot. Sure enough, there are 2 more boxes of 2-pair CAT 3 cable sitting on the shelf. I guess General Cable is still producing that configuration. [neutral]
