We upgraded to 6.1 from 5.9 and now our backups take up to 3 to 4 times longer. We do not see that compression is enabled on our remote wan clients. Is there a registry setting or a dll that needs to be set to turn it back on. It appears to be enabled in the properties of the server in the commserv console. However it does not appear to be working properly.

in the properties of the data path at the storage policy copy level ensure that hardware compression is checked.

are you using a maglib and do you have disk compression enabled on that maglib?

Disk compression on a maglib actually slows backups down...best just to use CV software compression for disk backups.

Thanks. For the responces. It turned out that we had hardware compression enabled for out wan clients. That trumped the compression on the client option. We have since disabled the hardware compression and out wan client backup times over the weekend are back to normal.

Thanks again.
