After upgrading my AIX system from AIX 5300-05-00 to 5300-05-06, the backup time on tape drive 3580 has increased twice the time it was before the Service pack upgrade. I have to remove stuff from the backup to make sure the backup is complete in the timeframe I have to respect. The block size on the tape is set to 0. What can be the problem?

I have the same LTO3 tape drive with the same os level and i have no problems! it takes almost 1 min to backup 1GB of data! Could it be the tape block size?!?! Did you restart the server after the upgarde?

Regards,
Khalid

Did you specify apply only or commit when upgrading to 5300-05-06?

If you specified apply, it saves a copie of the previous version of a lot off packages. This takes a lot of space, and that can make the backup time to increase.

You should go to smit installation menus, and do a commit of applied software. This will remove the older copies.
