Hello all:

We have Arcserve2000 running on our server, it was working fairly good, but after we changed the tape drive to another of the exact same model (SEAGATE DAT 624), but different firmware version, a newer one (8240), the backup is so slow! It is taking about 15 hours!
If anyone has an idea it would be really appreciated.

Hi
1-What type of data your are backing?
2-Is it a local or remote backup?
3-Try to apply the latest TapeEngine update from support.cai.com
4-also check CA support site of the firmware is certified or not.

regards,
mohamdr

If the problem really did start with the install of the new tape drive, and it is the same data being backed up,
make sure the SCSI ID does not conflict,
check cable & termination,
make sure OS device driver is not loaded for it,
as mohamdr said install latest Added Device Support update.

Here goes the answers to mohamdr:

1.I am backing up the same data I used to, the daily rotational backup

2.The backup is both local and remote, standard data on local server, and data from an exchange server and other servers across the domain

3. About the latest tape engine update, we have applied SP4 for arcserve, I take it has the engine updated

I just noticed that the drives' user manual says the device doesn not provide SCSI termination, so tonight I will check which connector I used when connecting the device... Yes, David Michael the data being backed up is the same one as before...so you might be right, thanks for the help.

No good news yet.....
I changed the scsi connector to make sure it is not the last one, but that dint help eihter, also the bus for the card has its own terminator.

Any other ideas anyone?
