Hi,
We're using metaframe XP on w2k and I have a big problem. I've recently installed two new apps that are very slow to open up, but if i change the user settings to install they open up at the normal speed :-( Does anybody know why this is ? I did change to /install & disabled logons when i installed the apps.

Regards

Both of them are database based. One is a query app and the other is for setting up and retrieving bookings. The second one is using ODBC to connect back to a SQL server.

Thnaks for the help

Database apps are always "fun" to resolve.

I hope you have a test server?

The basics are (Forgive me for going over old ground, if I do);

1. Keep the physical database separate to the Citrix server(s). This not only helps performance, but assists scalability.

2. Install the client in change user /install mode, and make as many necessary changes and updates for connections whilst in that mode. When you have made all the changes necessary, put the server back into change user /execute mode, and test.

3. If ini files are used, you may need to copy these to user's home directories and you may also need to ensure that environment variables reflect this.

If connectivity is still slow, you may find that tools such as Filemon or Netmon will identify bottleneck areas. I'd guess there's either a permissions or name resolution issue. These tools will track down both, in the order specified.

I hope this helps - Good Luck! CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk
