Hello,

I have narrowed down what can reproduce the problem but I have no idea how to fix it. I am running Mas 90 4.2 (service pack 10) and if we run the aged receivable report while anyone has a customer maintenance screen open (only screen I have tested so far) the aged receivable report runs very slowly. If we close that then it runs very quickly. Any thoughts on what might cause this behavior or how to fix it.

Working as designed. Nothing you can do but have everyone out of Customer Maintenance.

Is there by chance any way to create a different Crystal Report or something that I can, pull all the data out into a database by ODBC or something? I am being yelled at because 5 minutes to wait for a report is entirely too long. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

I have not seen this scenario before. Do you have your anti-virus settings correct?

Dawn

The workstations and server are not running any anti-virus software. I checked the SMB signing settings on the server and tried with oplocks enabled/disabled and no change. There is not a bottleneck in the network infrastructure as everything is running on cat 5e with brand new procurve switches and routers. The server is a dual core with plenty of RAM so that shouldn't affect it either. I can consistently reproduce the situation by having any screen open (even inquiries) and running the report and have it run slow and then when I close those and run the report it runs quickly. I really have no idea what this could be.

Big Louie nailed it. Louie isn't Mas200 considerably faster? It is a client/server app as opposed to Mas90?

Adam, there is NOTHING you can do. This is due to the 4.0 technology. Close the screens. And can I ask why you have to constantly run the aging?

Thanks guys, the lady who works with A/R likes to run it after updating cash receipts which she does most of the day so it is run multiple times. She was just getting frustrated after she was used to it going quickly in 4.05 and now it takes much longer and it is not reasonable to ask everyone to get out of those screens every time she runs it. I guess that is just something we might have to deal with, unfortunate though. On the other hand if I can recreate the report using tables I have pulled into mySQL it should run considerably faster and I can create some PHP scripts for remote access to those reports.

I think it always stinks bad when the answer to slowness in an application is that "its working as designed".

My answer would be the application has been poorly designed.

I agree your collections manager is a bit hyper with running the report so often during the day. What value is she getting?

Everything has a cost. If its a pain you want to endure then create a few Access routines to pull out the data during the day.

I suppose you could give her a terminal session on the server where she could run the reports. You may find the processing time less. By how much I could not estimate.

For what its worth, the gossip on version 4.3 is that it is supposed to be faster.
