i am going to be talking someone through installing an analog card in one of my remote PBXs and want to make sure I'm 100% correct in what I'm asking him to do:

037 * (does this refer to the FOURTH cabinet, slot 7?)
038 * (does this refer to the FOURTH cabinet, slot 8?)
039 *
041 * (does this refer to the FIFTH cabinet, slot 1?)
042 *
043 *

And whatever slots/shelves these are, can i put an analog card in any of them? I kind of need an immediate answer. thanks for your help.

You are correct. I would hope your slots are actually numbered to match that. I looked at my second cabinet and it is numbered 11-20. I would hope if I needed a third cabinet, I could get it with 21-30 already numbered.

how come there is a zero in front? i can imaging i could have a 9-cabinet option 11! generally speaking the FIRST cabinet is ZERO, the SECOND cabinet is ONE, and so on?

Each Option 11 cabinet has 10 slots, and you can have up to 5 cabinets. The zero doesn't really mean anything.. Nortel likes to use zeros. Just think of the first slot in cabinet 1 as 1, in cabinet 2 as 11, and so on. Yes, you can put an analog or digital card in any slot (1-10). It is good practice to put line cards with line cards and trunk cards with trunk cards, but that is more of a "housekeeping" thing.

Special note for future reference if ever applicable - original hardware installers should number the cabinets with supplied labels as cabinet 0 (slots 1 to 10), cabinet 1 (slots 11 to 20), cabinet 2 (slots 21 to 30), etc. The reason i say this is that in some of the installs i have seen, the third cabinet is not always cabinet 2 (slots 21 to 30) but cabinet 3 (slots 31 to 40). On the 5-cabinet Option 11C platform, the fiber daughterboards (DB) are equipped with two sets of fiber ports to accomodate two cabinets. The first DB gives you cabinets one & three (11 to 20 & 31 to 40) and the second DB gives you cabinets two & four (21 to 30 & 41 to 50).
