I have an old laptop w/o a CD rom drive. I would like to install Linux on it, but can't find a distro that is small and has all the power I'm looking for.
all I want:
pico
gcc/g++
clisp
perl
CVS or RCS
xWin (Ice or Fvwm will do)
Netscape
Java SDK
Emacs (xWindows version)

I have found a few that look close but they are either really ugly installs, or they are missing something.

If it has a compatible network card, you should be able to install Slackware (for instance). It has the option of fetching all files from a server. //Daniel

The network card I have isn't on the compatable list, but I know there are Linux drivers out there for it.... somewhere. I've heard a lot of people talk about older versions of Slackware being fairly small, are there and site that have a floppy distro of an older Slcakware version?
