On a personal project I am trying to create an 11,000 page PDF document from a text file containing 597K lines. FYI its a combined file listing from my NAS server for all my systems.

I do not have acrobat but I have been using some freeware text to pdf converters. However, I think this task is too large for them as they all fail.

Is anyone aware of a free or very cheap facility to covert text to pdf? I'd even take source code and attempt to tweak it to make it work with such a large file.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Thanks [ponder]

I am on a Mac. There is a built in program that converts files to pdf in the Scripts Panel in the folder "Printing Scripts". I tested it and it works on .txt files. But...

I'm thinking that your document is so large that the system just times out (I know my Mac would). Is it possible to split the doc into 11 1000 page documents, then pdf each? There are third party software (pretty cheap ones too) that can combine them back into one pdf, after you're done.

is a site where you can download for $30 a program that combines pdfs into one. They also have their sourcecode available, if you are so inclined.

is another.

Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion(s). What I ended up doing was locate the source code for text2pdf which is written in c. By examining it I was able to tweat the fields and pointers to contain my entire file. I actually got to communicate with the program author, who endorsed my changes, and he advised me that Adobe Acrobat is what was causing my issues with opening such large pdf's. I installed Foxit reader and it opens and works just fine. Just FYI.

Thanks again - B [smile]
