I am trying to fix up an old monitor to an old pc to pass on to my grandad, i've got the monitor hooked up and working but the screen is seperated into 3 or 4 sections by black bands, anyone know a fix for this? it's an old compaq monitor, just to be used for typing letters etc not for graphics work.
Any clues would be useful.
PS; i tried the compaq site to download a driver, but it's not even listed!

Vertical. Does that make a difference?

Yes.

It means that the horizontal scan rate generated by the video card is too fast for the monitor.

It probably means that the monitor is a VGA monitor (640x480) and can't change its settings to 800x600 or whatever the video card is putting out.

The easiest thing to do is connect a more modern SVGA monitor and then change the display settings to 640x480.

The other alternative is that the existing monitor is seriously defective.
