I have a ACS R6 and Voice Messaging R1. On every extension I heard a slight clicking noise in the background. Is this a grounding problem?

Hi openthinking,
You may have a bad card. Try pulling exapnsion cards one at a time (power off between attempts). These days I suspect the voicemail first as I've had two that did exactly this. You may have a bad processor. After you've pulled everything out, and still have the noise, take the processor out of the carrier and plug the power cord directly in to check if the carrier is at fault. Then unplug extensions one at a time just to be sure.

I had the same problem with an ACS R5 with no stations except 1 connected on any port. When the card had 8 sets connected the problem disappeared,(voltage problem?). You might want to make sure you do have a good ground. Metal building frame is best, some cold water copper water pipes,(mostly recommended) may have a plastic splice somewhere along the line. Use a meter with continuity set, attach one end to a known good ground, the other to your ground. A good ground will max the needle(analog) or give an audible(digital)

Hi aaigner,
If it is not the carrier, and the processor does this with nothing else connected except the phone directly into the port, it sounds like the processor. Try in a different location to exclude local power line effects or radio stations etc...
If it is the processor, send it out for repair or exchange. Failing that, replace it or live with it.

what part of the carrier woul di attahce da gorund wire to? how would ground it?

There is a ground screw on the front of the processer. No grounding of the carrier. Make sure the power source has a ground. A length of #10 ground wire can be attached to building frame metal with a beam clamp, or use a pipe clamp on the copper water line.

Thanks I will look for the groudn screw.... will look for it on the fron skinny side that has the line and extensions
