When the page is loaded I want several lines of text to slide onto the page in a sequenced manner (i.e., the first line moves down the page to its final position and then the second line of text begins its motion). Has anyone visited a site that illustrates this or has anyone come up with an easy way to implement this? Thanks.

yes, you may find plenty of tutorials or free source code to download
the only link i can give you is the w3c site, as they have the best ref ever on css, and what you want to do is best done in css - they have links to tutorials tho, so it might be worth checking
you can also check the msdn site, they have examples of this kind of stuff, and it's well explained - but not cross browser at all !!
