I have a Magix 1.5 that has been upgraded from a legend 7.0 with CKE4 processor. We've got all MLX sets, mostly old MLX 10D, but a few 10DP's. Intermittently I have trouble with the 10D sets going sleepy. Actually they do more than go sleepy, they actually will occasionally go off-hook on speaker and just start randomly dialing digits. This never has happened with the 10DP's. A power cycle does not resolve the issue either. Usually we have to unplug the set for a few hours then it comes back. I have defaulted the processor and re-keyed the system. It's not a power load problem either and I have swapped out power supplies to be sure that it was not faulty. I just find it strange that the older 10D's have trouble but the newer 10DP's do not. I am thinking that it may a firmware or application vintage problem in the 408 MLX boards, but cannot find a QPPCN that backs this up. Obviuosly we could have them just get 10DP sets or just change out the 408 MLX boards, but I'm looking for a rationale. Any thoughts?

I believe it has to deal with the keypad membrane in the phone. They go bad over time and start reading buttonpresses even though buttons aren't physically being pressed. You have to disassemble the phone and clean the membrane to get it to stop. Supposidly it will stop for a while, then go back to beeping, doing nothing or calling people.

One of our phones had a habit of calling people back. It was wierd to hear a phone go off hook in the middle of the night and dial one of the last called numbers.

I have a couple of phones I think I need to try this on. Anyone have any pointers/hints/pitfalls to the process?

if you send them out to be refurbished (there are a lot of secondary refurb houses) and request new membranes they will replace the old membranes. I do not know if the membranes are the issue, but if so this could be one avenue.

Membranes can be purchased for about $25.00 each. They are
easy to replace and work great. I have restored many MLX sets. If you want to know where to buy this stuff...let me
know.
