Is "slamming" (phone service and/or LDX changed to an alternate carrier without your permission) still going on? It appears this is what happened to us overnight, at least that is what SBC alludes to. We have multiple lines in hunt groups. It appears that the first few numbers within each group were removed from SBC. Callers hear recording that "this number has been disconnected." Something seems fishy for the calls to be going to a recording if numbers were grabbed by another carrier. These lines have no dial tone. Meanwhile, we have no incoming phone service until numbers are programmed back into the computer. Has anyone gone through this? Did you take any action with the legitimate carrier after restoration? Am I being misled?

Slamming is "stealing?" the long distance business, it has nothing to do with inbound lines. If you have SBC, nad get a recording when dialing into your facility, it's probably SBC that is the culprit. They can certainly trace it and find out the cause.

Seems I have read where 'phone service' is also stolen and considered slamming. Anyway, SBC has admitted guilt and was a 'tradegy of errors' as opposed to a 'comedy of errors'. Not all problems are yet resolved and is causing us much grief with clients not only unable to reach us but wondering if we are still in business since they are being advised via recording that numbers have been disconnected...

I share your pain. If EVER there is a local carrier with most of the bells and whistles, and a little bit service, these types of companies are GONE, but until the competition is there, they really do not have to change.
What state do you live in?

Am in KS.
The rest of the story: I have 19 incoming lines that have suffix of -12xx. Six hunt groups have one of these numbers as the first line. All -12xx lines within our exchange were disconnected by SBC due to their programming error, thus we were unable to receive any incoming calls. Callers received the message "line has been disconnected and is no longer in service." It took over eight hours to get all lines restored! Clients, quite naturally, assumed the worst, we had gone belly-up.
I am told that another local company who recently took Chapter 11, released a large number of -12xx numbers. "Someone" erred by disconnecting *all* -12xx lines. There will be more to this story...

I have the web site in my stae, but would suggest you file a complaint with your state's Public Utilities Commission. These utilities are regulated and allowed to charge what they do because they are deemed as useful to the public, hence "public utilities", When they are aiding and abetting bad business, especially for the small businesses, they are usually very responsive. Rule of thumb: "Big companies do not understand the small guys, but they do understand a big hammer" Make the call, or visit their website. The number and type of complaints against the utilities go against them when they go up for a rate increase.

This type of error has happened in Pacific Bell areas in California also. Some rep types a service order wrong and all kinds of things can and do happen! A good point of information when lines are disconnected or features stop working is to get repair service to check for ANY recent service order activity. This can be very telling and possibly speed up the restoration process. When all is said and done don't forget about out of service credit... Also with repair get a supervisor or first level involved.

Hope this helps!
