Not sure the accual meaning but it refers to the old Nortel PBX's like the DMS250, DMS100, Sl100, SL1. The Meridian took the place of the SL1. we still see a lot of reference to SL1 and it usually is refering to the PBX. The DCH interface type to another meridian is set to SL1, Meridian Mail ports for larger systems are still programmed as SL1, and so on.
If I recall correctly, I believe the accronym SL stands for Simple Logic to which there were quite a few models such as the SL-1L, LE, E, N, XN, which are no longer manufacture but are still heavily in use. There was a time when Nortel gave out a hefty credit to users of those system who upgraded to the Meridian 1 family.
