skipping over certain cells in Excel 97

I am using Excel 97 as crude drawing tool for telephone rack and card layout. I want all unused / blank cells located in various rows and column areas to be "merged" in a blank white area and so when I use the "tab" key it only goes to the unprotected editable cells but not in any other blank areas/cells

Sounds like the areas you want to edit are non-contiguous. To select non-contiguous areas:<br>

Drag through the first block to highlight the area. Then hold down your Control key and highlight another area. Keep using the Control key to highlight as many areas as you want.<br>

Once you have them all selected, go to Insert - Name - Define. Make up a name for this area.<br>
<br>
Now whenever you want to do editing in these non-contiguous blocks, do a Ctrl-G (Go to) and choose the name you defined. Have tried actually merging unused cells to one big cell? (Format/Cells/Align/Merge Cells) This Excel97 feature is very useful when designing forms and other layouts.<br>
