Simply out of curiosity, I thought I'd ask this question. I just tried to figure out how to do this, but haven't spent too long on it yet.

Let's say you have a 12-page doc with two master pages (A-Master and B-Master). The A-Master has an auto-page-number at the bottom, and the B-Master doesn't. Now, you want to insert a B-Master in the middle (let's say between pages 6 and 7). No worries, you can just drag the master down to the page.

BUT... You want the A-Master page that follows the B-page to pick up the numbering where it left off, so you've got Pages ...4, 5, 6, B-Master, 7, 8... (instead of 5, 6, B, 8, 9...)

Is it doable? [morning]

PS - I know it can be done with new sections, but can it be done without?

I have never tried to do this but I think you need to use the Section Numbering (From Layout menu). Apply A-Master from Pg 1- 6, apply B-master to page 7 as you already said you know, then again using the Section Numbering option, command the layout to start at page 8.(Not page 1)and apply the A-Master. This should answer your qn.

Am sorry I am not on the PC that has INDD installed on but if you don't get what am trying to say, I'll reply when I get to it so that I give you the complete technical terms.
I know my English is not so good when am explaining.
