Out of the blue, SK98 has started to crash when I initiate a spell check on a document. My OS is XP. Any thoughts? Would it be of any benefit to delete the spell check files?

Thanks in advance...

Dear rustywillis,

If you delete the file it will revert to the first time you installed sidekick. To avoid that it would be a good idea to CLOSE SIDEKICK and then rename the original USER.DCT which resides in the
C:\Program Files\Starfish\Sidekick 98\data folder.
to USERold.DCT
Then re-open Sidekick and it will re-create a new empty dictionary file.
This is what an empty dictionary file looks like IN NOTEPAD and it is the file USER.DCT

Spf8UD ^S

END OF FILE.

And this is what it looks like when I added the words:
Cary
Derrynacoosane
Keadue
Roscommon

Spf8UD ^S
Cary #ts
Derrynacoosane #cs
Keadue #ts
Roscommon #yn

So although the suffix #cs etc seems a little odd, it looks like it is fairly easy to re-create or edit the file using the above as an example.
Open the USERold.DCT file in Notepad and check for duplicates or send it to me as a FAQ comment.

Regards
Jim
