Hi

I've been using 262144 as the SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS on a unix master. I switched to Windows ( through cost ), and it errors our with 84 ( media write error). If I lower the SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS to 131072 it works fine.

Problem is, I can't restore the backups written on the unix box because of the bigger block size.

What in Windows is stopping the higher block size, and can I fix it ?

Make sure, on your media server, that you have a file named NET_BUFFER_SZ_REST <--It is case sensitive. The size of both should be 132096. 131072 is a wrong value BTW, although divisible by 1024, it does not allow for the extra 1k that is needed for TCP overhead - Be sure to change it. In your GUI the "Communications Buffer Size" MUST be 129 for W2K servers.
