Hey Tek-tips, if I am creating an adobe photoshop or illustrator file and I want to convert that into a PDF file, what is the most efficient way to doing this while keeping the size and quality that I want, and not making the file 5 megs.

Thanks
Caden

Try creating a PS file first then distilling it into a PDF file.
If its to big, play with the distiller compression and resolution settings until you get the desired result.
And good luck with that. Anytime you try to keep a file to a certain size (and i'm guessing the original file is larger then 5mb) you are going to lose quality.
the question is how much quality loss are you willing to live with?

Why does the file have to be under 5mb?

If it is just for emailing a proof, you can open the pdf in Acrobat & then File/Reduce size.

If it is to send to a printer, we are a large format printing house & have an ftp site where all our customers can download their files - size is not an issue. This way they can download large pdfs, photoshop files or illustrator files (along with the support files} & do not lose any quality.

If this is the case, ask your printer if you can download it instead of emailing it. Stuff or zip the files before downloading so nothing gets scrambled in the transmission.

Don't worry about it if you are using vector graphics in the pdf.
