Sites appearing in Site Map

I have created a Sharepoint site. On the "Site Directory" page, I have used the "Add Link to Site" to link to other sharepoint sites.

When I select "Categories" or "Top Sites", the sites show as they are supposed to.

What I need is for the linked sites to appear in the "Site Map" part of the Site Directory. Nothing I've tried so far has succeeded in accomplishing this. Is this even possible?
