Everywhere I read (google hacks) they tell you to minimize the size of your pages. The smaller the page the less the load time and the happier the surfer.
I am using dreamweaver and my pages are sitting around 25-35k a page with a load time of about 11-19 seconds.
I have tweaked and tweaked and just can't seem to make my site small enough without sacrificing a professional looking site.
I have redone graphics to make them smaller; I have taken out larger more elaborate graphics that are not necessary. Are there any tips I should focus on that would help?
I mean I need some graphics but just can't seem to get my pages down around 15k and 6-8 second load times.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Todd

what connection are you basing your load times on?

site loaded very fast here -- t1
just make the site how you want it to look and use text and solid color gifs where you can and that will keep your size down.

honesty 25-35K is nothing -- is that just the size of your htm file? or is that everything that makes up the page? cuz that is Extremly low

Sometimes the Answer You Are LOOKING for can be FOUND BY SEARCHING THE FAQ'S @&%$*#!!!

It's based on 56k. And that's for the entire page. I have tested it on a dialup and everything seems to load pretty quick but other larger pages do not. I think for what I am selling I would be ok but the average patience level of the average customer is 8 seconds. Anything beyond that I lose a pretty high percentage of shoppers that drop off and shop elsewhere.
Why o why can't we all have high speed.

Most of your pages could be be reduced by 8 - 10 k simply by tidying up the HTML code then using CSS instead of defining fonts in every cell and sorting out the javscript functions.
You have the same new window function defined several times with different names, just to use different sized windows and urls, this should be written to be called with parameters so one function will serve for all cases. There are some cells where the font size is defined 3 times with no characters in between changes. It is typical code bloat of pages made in the WYSIWYG view of HTML editors.

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

Thanks for the information Chris. That is a lot of good stuff I never considered. I appreciate you taking a look at my code and offering those suggestions. Sounds like with that fine tuning I can drop a lot of waste.
