I have a site-to-site vpn setup between my home and my office. I am using 2 Sonicwall devices...a TZ-170 at home and a Pro2040 at work. Should I be concerned about leaving the VPN connection active 24-7? I am using a DSL connection at home and a T-1 connection at work. I use MAC's at home and PC's at work. I just want to make sure I am not creating a security risk by leaving it active all the time. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you are. That said, it's not necessarily a big risk.

Make sure that you treat your home computers like corporate ones with regards to security. Your exposure to most viruses, worms and trojans should be less with the Mac, but vigilance is always needed.

And, the reverse is true. Most likely, your corporate computers can access your home machines (at layer 3, at least). If there are any servers running on your home computers, make sure that they're filtered from the office network if you don't want them visible to the office.

As for external risks, I'm not familiar with these Sonicwall models, but the Sonicwall is a great step up from the typical home router. They're respected firewalls, so (as long as they're configured well) I wouldn't be worried about leaving it up.
