Can anyone suggest a decent inexpensive VPN router (Linksys, NetGear, etc.) that will allow some of my remote users to establish a sit-to-site VPN connection to our PIX 515? I would like to install a VoIP phone (Cisco 7940) at each of these locations. Although the IP Communicator is nice, they would prefer a hardware phone that would sit on their desk at home.

On a different note, would it be better to use 3DES or AES 128 for the encryption on the PIX. From what I have read, 3DES is faster but is being phased out by AES. Some of the inexpensive routers I have found only support 3DES.

Thanks.

ProSafe VPN Firewall from Netgear FR114P. I hav had to use netgear to connect with the Pix before. works well enough for a few users.

Thanks NetworkGhost.

I looked on Netgear's website and that router is marked for EOL.

I've researched the FVS318v3 last night and found that people were torn between liking and disliking/hating the router. Like many other cheap VPN routers, it has it flaws.

Does anyone have an FVS318v3 router that connects successfully to a PIX? Is it stable?

Why not go with a Pix 501? If the "new" price is to high, go with a refurb. A good refurb company is cxtech.com. The sales team is very good and they put a lifetime warranty on their products. smartnet is also available.

Although the PIX 501 would work, I was trying to stay below $200.

The netgears arent a bad choice. For less than 200. Im not sure there are many other solid choices. At least they are from a company that will back their product. Pretty easy to configure. Performance may be questionable at times and I am sure with the installation, any issues that arise with the user will be blamed on the netgear. Ive been there before (adware/spyware)!!!
