site slow when sql server down

I have banner ads served onto my site by an SQL server. When this server goes down it takes forever for page to load. Is there anyway to have the page content load before the SQL banner ad, without putting the ad at the bottom of the page?

What programming language are you using? You could first try to check if the connection to the dB is active, if it's not then you can skip the banner loading.

Its just a Dreamweaver webpage using a program called adpeeps to serve banners from an sql db. The host sql server is not that reliable.

Then you need to contact the makers of adpeeps and let them of this problem. Chances are other customers are having the same issue.
