I met this guy who told me that site root relative links could not be read by some search engines. I dont think it Is true but am i wrong?

e.g links in page all look like this: href="/somewhere/test.htm

Can anyone comment?

thanks

Hi mate,

This is wrong.

In most cases, it is preferrable to use relative links simply because if you change the domain name of the site, you would not need to rework the full site to update every link.

Hope this helps

Hi Wullie.

So all the major search engines support the site relative links? ie. alta vista and alltheweb etc..

I understand the advantages of site relative links. But do all search enginees support them for definate. can anyone show some links to articles on this subject.

thanks

Angus

Hi mate,

Trust me, not just all the major engines but 99% of the tiny engines will support them.

What type of engine would it be if it didn't? It wouldn't have many pages in it's index. [wink]

Hope this helps

As Wullie states every engine/browser/viewer supports relative links.

want proof? go to any site you want in any google/alltheweb/altavista/yahoo/msn/jayde/gigablast search you care to do, view the source, look how the links are constructed. More conclusive proof I can't imagine.
