I'd appreciate some comments on my new site, whether that's about colours, layout, technical issues etc. as it will be going live soon and I'd like to make sure it's as good as it can be before this happens.

Thanks,
Mark

You say "our company" on the navigation, but in the blurd you say "his company". Given that it's just you, I'd change "our company"... I guess yuo were trying to aviod the cliched "About us", so perhaps something like "About MDS Solutions" is a good compromise?

Personally, I'd stop referring to your company as "MDS Solutions" throughout the blurb when "we" would work just as well. For example, on the portfolio page, you could replace this:

MDS Solutions have been involved in a number of internal and external facing websites. Here is a sample of some of those external sites:

The aspnetlibrary was created by Mark Smith to

with this:

We have been involved in a number of internal and external facing websites. Here is a sample of some of those external sites:

Update your accesibility page. You give a set of access keys that are probably for the browser you use, but hardly cater for all major browsers or screen readers. You also fail to mention which browser they are for. Check out the Coedit accessibility page (see my sig) for an example of one that lists many more combinations.

If you're going to have a CAPTCHA device on the contact page, make it accessible with a speech option available as well. or, remove the CAPTCHA altogether.

If you're going to put "validation" claims on your page, make sure yuor pages do validate. There are many errors (this is just the markup, I haven't checked the CSS):

Hope this helps,
Dan

Thanks for the feedback Dan, I'll make the "our company" changes later tonight, as well as taking the time to update the accessibility changes that you list on your site.

I think I'll stick with having a CAPTCHA method as it does seem to stop a lot of spam with my other site, so 'll look into adding speech capabilities as well.

As for the XHTML validation, it does actually produce valid XHTML and validate using the links provided on the site (which go to but it doesn't using the validator you've linked to. I know the reason for this, which is due to ASP.NET seeing the request coming from htmlhelp.com as a "down-level" browser request so it doesn't send valid markup (odd I know, but you can prove this by validating the local XHTML instead of directly to the URL). I do have a workaround for this though which I'll also add into the site.

Thanks again for your comments.

Very nice, but just a couple of items.

1. This
Here is a sample [red]of some [/red]of those external sites:
feels a bit clumsy. You can lose the redundant (red) bit.

2. Whole focus seems to be inward looking - lots of lovely features (We have ..., We can...) but few benefits. Standard sales mantra says show Features AND Benefits - We do X (feature) - This does Y for you (benefit). Clients buy benefits, not features!

Hi John,

Thanks for your comments.

1. I've removed that redundant text.
2. OK, I'll have a look at adding some extra text to show what benefits a client would get.

Thanks,
Mark
