We have an SMS 2003 server that is still displaying workstations that haven't been running for a month. Any ideas on how to update the database? I'm new to SMS (obviously) but here are the steps I've taken.

I'm logged in as administrator
Reapplied SP1
Ran all of the discovery methods listed

Also, when creating new collections, it won't update with new systems. Perhaps the problems are connected.

Your aged data settings are under Site Hierarchy > Site > Site Settings > Site Maintenance > Tasks.

All the settings there relate to how long you keep data, how long before an objet becomes obsolete etc.....have a look through and configure it how you want it.

Hope this Helps.

Thanks.. but now I think there's a bigger problem. When adding membership rules, sometimes nothing appears in the list. I'm guessing that means I entered something that doesn't quite jive with AD.

I guess the biggest problem is when I do actually create a membership rule, I try to refresh and update membership collection, and the same list as before shows up except the collection icon has an hourglass next to it.

Anyone know why this is happening? I have given myself full class security and instance rights within the collection.

I have now gone the extra mile and changed the sms service "log in as" option to localservice. I know this is potentially insecure, but i wanted to know if perhaps the rights were insufficient for my sms2k3svsacct profile. Still I'm getting constant small hourglasses next to every collection. I've scanned tons of forums for anyone who's ever had a similar problem and I've found nothing.

Contemplating an option of deleting and reinstalling sms (not preferred at all), how difficult would it be for me to start from scratch?

Its not difficult at all. I have writen an installation and configuration guide to get you up and running. Just run through that and repair the client installation on all systems. Should take about 1-1.5 hours to get back up[ and running. Then depending on your discovery settings, a couple of hours to a few days to get all your systems back with res information.

Hope this Helps.

I did try to contact you through your profile but I got no response, so I decided I'd just try it on my own and it fixed the problem! It seems to be taking a while just to get all of the resources and clients pushed out, but thanks for your help! If you could send me that guide to nastri83@yahoo.com for future reference, that would be awesome.

Thanks

I sent a bunch out this morning...you were in there.

Hope this Helps.
