Hi,

This is my first experimentation with liquid CSS design. I have done the layout in CSS rather than tables. The design also conforms to XHTML Transitional Standards. You must be aware that XHTML does not work in older browsers (IE 4 and NS 4)

The thing that really notices gfor me is theres no padding to the left border, thats really offputting when trying to read it, otherwise smart and well presented. ***************************************

Anyone using an 800 x 600 resolution?
I have a utility that lets me resize my browser window to different resolutions. When I set it to this resolution, the HTML Writers Guild and IWA logos appear under the main text. Are you aware of this? Aren't webpages supposed to be designed for this resolution (or at least shrink well?).
I know I'm being picky, but ask and you shall receive!
Nice site otherwise though! You gave me some ideas...... :)

What is the point of having the same options in the drop-down box as are on the menu?

Also, the logo at the top is nice, but it starts to get a little repetitive with the same buildings being shown again and again at a high resolution/big page - it might look better to have the skyline 'fade out' into the page background before it starts to repeat

The CSS looks good but I don't get why you use a table on the right side for just those text links. Doesn't look like its really necessary to use a table there. ===

Like the site bluranj and its always good to see someone embracing new technologies. Not wanting to be picky but currently your site wont validate for xhtml1.0 transitional check out:

you need to put xml closing syntax on single tags e.g an img tag should be in this format

<img.... border=&quot;0&quot; />

using the space followed by forward slash to close the tag. Otherwise great.

BTW i use xhtml 1.0 for nearly all my work now and find no backwards compatablilty problems with version 4 browsers due to the xhtml at all. Admittedly sometimes i have to compromise the xhtml principles even if not invalidate my code to support ns4. Somethings like including media content such as Flash movies is just not possible whilst keeping valid xhtml code for NS4 as tags such as embed are not in the specification

However if you need something to pass the w3c validator and also use an embed tag or other invalid code with no alternative, a workaround is to write the invlaid xhtml into the page with a javascript document.write when the page is parsed. The validator wont pick the invalid code up then. Not that i would reccomend anyone did that of course......

Mike T - sounds like a useful tool. Is this a bookmarklet or something else and are you prepared to share?

[thumbsup] - its friday!!

if anyone is interested i made my own bookmarklets to do this as it struck me it was terribly simple and why had i never done it before.

so if you want them chuck this link in a page and then right click and add to favourites.
Code:
<a href=&quot;javascript:resizeTo(800,600)&quot;>resizeTo 800x600</a>

you could make others to different dimensions if you liked

Its called IE Booster

This freeware program adds options to your context menu in Internet Explorer 5 and up. I've found it to be very useful. In addtion to resizing the window, it will pick apart a webpage for you, for those who enjoy taking a peek under the hood of a webpage.

Hello

You asked for a site critique.

The colour scheme is nice, attractive and professional. I would probably use a Tahoma or verdana font myself. The use of CSS gives it a cool look (to match the colour scheme).

On the other hand, there is no e.mail facility!! Most importantly, though, is the photo at the top. The photo is a nice shot, but the criterion is this: what does this photo say about my Web design site? What does this photo say about my Web design skills? The photo could be a shot for: &quot;Come to...wherever it is&quot;. I would use the opportunity to say something about YOUR graphic design skills - not the talent of the local photographer.

Not being hard or negative, just my view.

Best wishes with it anyway!
