I have read thru many threads and I don't have a clear understanding of site codes for Secondary Sites. We have one Primary and about 10 secondary sites. All secondary sites are located all across the US. For each of these secondary sites I have them configured as a protected site under the Distribution Tab. In the "Advanced Client" tab under the "Client Push Installation" properties I have an entry labeled as such: SMSSITECODE=X, where X represents each individual site code. It is my understanding that when I manually push the SMS advanced client, I should be able to go into the SMS setting (control Panel)and see the site code that this client reports to. I don't see this on my clients....all clients state CS1 for their site code which is our Primary site code.
Because of this I am unsure of where each client is installing it's programs from.....are they installing from the Primary site or their protected local site server?

Any help would be great.
Thank you
Ron

Advanced clients only belong to primary sites. They will use the secondary to install clients and the PMP will route hw and sw inventories.

PMP? Proxy Management Point? How do I enable this or is this enabled when I enable "Protected Site"?

I also have to ask for clarification - you say that the PMP routes the HW and SW inventories. What do you mean by inventories? Do you mean programs that are pulled will come from the appropriate secondary site?

To enable the PMP, just install the MP on the secondary servers as normal

Site Settings > Site Systems > %server% > properties > Management Point tab > check "Use this system as a management point" > Distribution Point tab > check "Use this systems as a protected distribution point"

When Tim mentioned the inventories, basically when an inventory runs, it returns alot of data, when you have lots of sites, your main MP would get flooded with masses of data, by implementing a PMP, the inventory data is collected by the secondary site (which mas many less clients registered (not assigned) to it, therefore less data than if they were getting all the clients data. The PMP then produces like a summary of the inventory so send to the primary site, reducing the amount of data flowing and being stored at the Primary Site.

Hope this Helps.

Great, I now have a better understanding of MP's and DP's. So when I go to "Collections", "All Systems".....all "Site Codes" are listed as our Primary not any of our secondary sites. I take it this is ok and being that these clients are all "Advanced", they belong to the Primary Site even though these clients still report and get their packages from their respective Secondary Sites? It would be nice to be able to go to a specific client and have it show what "Site" that it gets its software and reports from/to.

Spot on Roni,

Hope this Helps.
