Hey folks, can anyone do a site-check and give me their opinions?? The site is not yet done, so this is not the final version. Can you guys check on NS, IE and other browsers, and on diff. screen resolutions, as well as PCs and MACs??
Thanks.

I have this little thing, Advanced Delusionary Schizophrenia with Involuntary Narcissistic Rage.
It's no big deal really...

I viewed it in IE6 on Win2000 at a resolution of 1152 * 864. The date and the copywrite notice were to far over on the left but apart from that everything looked good.

Have you though about maybe included a glossary describing the style of clothes?

MrBelfry

i viewed it in 800x600. there was a huge scroll and it asked me to download flash player7. why not compile at a lower version?

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

Had to make a change, so please check instead.

------------------------------------------------------
vbkris, there is no flash on that page, perhaps you checked the site when I uploaded the flash splash page a few seconds ago. Can you please check the link posted on top of this post?? Thanks.

MrBelfry, thanks. Good idea on the glossary of the clothing styles. I'll look into that.

I'll look into the date and copyright alignment. I think I have an idea why it happens like that.

Anyone else have anything to add?? Be honest, criticizm does not phase me, only makes me better...

well, i have a questions:
why have u designed it in 1024x768?

and ur buttons(contact...) can be a bit more sharper...

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

If it was me I'd put the homepage button on the left hand side or seperate it from the other buttons slightly to make it stand out more.

I also looked at your code and it seems that you're mixing a couple of techniques ie. you've used tables AND css positioning for your layout. This will probably cause you a lot of headaches.

You've also used the font tag which isn't part of the HTML spec any more. Use css instead.

Whilst I'm on a roll the text 'Then visit us, Jaipur Emporium Incorporated' is kind of redundant because I'm already visiting the site!

There are a couple of things that I personally wouldn't do like mix up casing on file names. mainpage.html can be different from MainPage.html (depending on the os that the server is running on). I think it is easier to stick to lower case. I also would never use a splash screen for anything. I can see why you've used it now but I wouldn't have it when the site goes live (I'm a lazy surfer and dont like having to click 'skip intro' I'd rather go straight into the site.

BUT I do like the look of the site!

Anyone else have any comments??

haven't see a site from you in a while, although I wasn't online much during the summer, anyway i only have IE6 at the moment:

1. side scrolling if my browser isn't maximised
2. border missing on the right hand side of the content row, by choice or..?
#update, border appears when I resize the browser

3. The main logo is very difficult to read (although it's good graphics work :))
4. very large images, is that for testing purposes or will it be part of the final design?
5. the area under the date looks a bit strange, is there something going there?
6. the small buttons on the right are hard to read.
7. you could put some sort of visual break in the content area such as a vertical line, to split the content, and maybe add more padding around the text?

Looks nice, can't wait to see the finished site!!

cian, thanks for the kind words man. Yeah it's been a while since I had a site out.

1) I guess I can force the browser to be maximized. Is that a good idea?? The site is intially designed for 1024*768 cause it fills up the space more, plus less and less people use 800*768 nowadays.

2) Didn't know the border was missing on the right side...not sure what you mean by: #update, border appears when I resize the browser[/color.

3) Yeah, the PSD file was originally large so I had to resize the JPG maybe thats why it looks hard-to-read, i'll just have to redo it, I guess...

4) The images, as in on the mainpage or in the sub pages??

5) Yeah, the area under the date was just me messing around. The left-side looked too blank while the right-side had the logo design, so I thought lemme see what I can create. Maybe i'll just left-align the logo., or center it...

6) Yeah, same reason as the #3, the re-size kinda messed it up.

7) I'm still awating for the bulk of the information from the client. I don't understand why they always take their time in getting the information to us, and then they complain when the site can't be finished fast, LOL

I have a question, how do you feel about a flash splash page. The client wants one, but i'm thinking would it be necessary?? I have a flash page up now, but its only till the site comes live. The link is on the top of the thread.
Thanks. ANy more comments/criticism is welcomed.

Hi again,

1. there's still a good 40% or more with 800*600 resolution going by my stats so it't be safest to design for that. And most people dislike when their browser is forced to resize

2. I meant the border wasn't there but when I oped the browser window more it appeared. nothing to worry about :)

4. the main page (the one posted about), you could use a slicer to split the images, it might help a bit.

A splash page is never necessary but I like them. They have to be tastefully done of course, that's the tricky bit :)

cian, looks like i'll have to redesign for 800*768 resolution instead. Got a question for you though: what width and height size do you think is appropriate to use when creating the interface in PS?? The interface I have now, I used 930*735 layer dimension to get started, when I used 1024*768 (screen resolution) the interface, when placed in HTML, had gorss scrollbars all over.
BTW, the interface is sliced up in ImageReady. It should load the images piece by piece.
What do you think of the interface itself?? Any comments on that?? Like its too simple, dull, etc.?? ANy feedback is appreciated.
Thanks.

I guess with the size just keep it small enough so you don't get any scrolling, give a bit of extra space. Personally i'd go anywhere from 650-720 max. Height is not so important.
I like the interface you have now, looks good. You could create some more contrast for the content text, but I like it anyway. :)

cian, thanks. I re-did the image with the width set to 735px should be more then enough on a 800*600 resolution as well as 1024*768.
I also a different naviagtion menu style and some more styles on the interface. If all goes well, i'll upload the new test page sometime this week.

The overall "feel" of the site is great. I like the wispy images of people in clothes; very professional.

(a) I reiterate the other comments about sidescrolling. What is your target audience? From my experience, people who order clothese online might have slightly older PCs (so 800x600 is more likely). A software site can usually be coded in 1024...

(b) The buttons are very good but one feature I usually like (I might be a minority on this one) is to click on the "header" image and go back to the main page.

(c) I know you're waiting on more information from customers, so I assume you're going to have more "hooks" on the homepage; things to get them interested in coming back to the site. Something like "New designs added 10/10/03" or a FAQ about the company... I dunno. But something should be added which conveys that there is a lot going on with the company, and that this site isn't just a static catalog (even if it is)

rudejohn, I have re-designed the interface. I made the width 735px. which should be sufficiant for 800*600 resolutions. I agree about the header being a link back to the main page, and I intend to do that.
As for having "hooks" on te main pagem its a good idea, but but not sure if it works for a clothing site. But nonetheless, since the site will have newer and more clothings added, it will have some kinda of a hook. But until the client gives me more info. (or any other info. for that matter), I just have to wait.
What are your thoughts on a flash splash page?? Good idea, bad idea?? The client wants one, so I will have one, but since the target audience is for dial-up users, a flash splash page might discourage some users, don't you think??

[sub]I have this little thing, Advanced Delusionary Schizophrenia with Involuntary Narcissistic Rage. It's no big deal really...[/sub]

I would strongly suggest avoiding a flash splash page for the site.

Take as an example which is a cartoon site whose primary audience is college students with T1+ connections. THEY even removed their flash splash page and gave you the OPTION to see it if you want.

People who are seeing the site for the first time might like it. Repeat customers, who already know that the company has good products, don't want to wait to start navigating the site. Turning these people off (the ones who are more likely to purchase) is not worth the benefit of impressing a few random visitors.

I like the layout and color scheme

Winxp, IE6
1) The footer that says 2003 imajin arts, and the top date looks out of whack (seems alignment is an issue)
2) Jewelery link is inactive.
3) Images are broken
4) Your navigation (pardon my bluntness) should be redone -- It seems unclear and even i had to squint. I try and use text in cells for navigation as they are clean and easy to read. (this is the one part of my site i try and not get fancy with)
5) to address your resolution issues why not design in percentages %'s

--that way you can use the whole screen (also just because it is % doesnt mean its always maximized) -- i always set a minimum as well so that the screen will never really condense below 600width. You cant really plan for height IMHO because vertical scrolling on a professional, business site is expected. Its only those, mainly most of us, that ooh and aah at the sites with iframes, and scrolling divs, but most browsers are fine with vertical scrolling.

by setting a fixed width to your site you are wasting space. I work on a 1152 width at work and 1024 at home. fixed 800 means you are loosing over 200+ pixels width with me. IMHO i dont really care for alieneating people whos resolution is at 800. There is a good chance that a majority of my business wont come from them (but then again with % you dont have to worry about that). If i had to i would take my chances at designing at 1024 if i had to have a fixed width.

That would be my only real beef with a nice clean layout and overall fast site.

Got a question here. I created an interface in PS and sliced it up in ImageReady. How can I show the HTML pages in the the big area where the content of the site will be?? Since its a image file (jpg), i'm using iFrames. And i've come across a few problems.
iFrames uses px. coordinates like Top, Left and Width to show the iFrame content. Now if I define one set of coordinates for 1024*768 res. obviously in 800*768 res. the iFrame will display the info. in the wrong area. And, I also realized that iFrames don't work in NS6-, so to make life a lot easier, how can I acheive the effect i'm looking for??
I uploaded the "test" page here, so you can see what I did so far:

PS: I re-did the interface so that no scroll bars will appear on 800 resolution.

also
why are we using an image for your background when all you need to use is the solid color looks like a gray so like #C3C3C3 or #CCCCCC but you would have to match that color exactly. Also you can wrap your text in DIVS and set them to overflow if you want. But iframes are useless here.

I really like the changes you've made to the header image, much cleaner and professional looking.

Seems to be a big problem in the content area, when I resize my browser the "content layer" doesn't flow with the rest of the page but sticks to the right side of the browser.
