Hi,

I have just published a community site and would really appreciate if as many people as possible could review it for me as it is due for launch.

I would appreciate any comments, good or bad.

Due to the nature of the site, no cache is stored so load speed is a little higher.

Please could you tell me:-

Browser used.
Connection.
Approximate page loading speed.
Any problems encountered.(Display or otherwise)
Any other comments you may have.

the internet warning had a scripting error "menuskin undefined"...
an add window popped up.. i hate adds.... !!!!
otherwise... loads fine, i just skimmed thru cos i don't have too much time, but it seems fine, although, your messages site.. you've got a kind of beige background with pink text over the top.. this colour combination is bad for colourblind people (~1/3 of all males) try a more contrasting colour on it but i'm very picky, but you wanted comments ^-^

how come some things pop up in different windows, others stay in the same one? and you might want to keep the colour combinations of the text consistent??
hrmm.. i think i'm getting toooooo picky now! so i will stopp Seeya!

I'm not sure what the goal and purpose of your site is, because I didn't stay long enough to find out. Any site that has not one but two popup windows on entry will never be visited by me again, and I imagine that feeling is echoed by quite a few potential visitors as well.

Further, you asked for help on your site, but when I wanted to view your source to see if you are doing the basics like adding Height and Width specs to the IMG tags, I find you have circumvented the right-click, preventing me from helping. Robert Bradley

Less than 3 seconds.
17" @1024x768

Load time is good.
Red text on grey buttons sucks, hard to read. Red links suck, how about green? (Green means GO!)
Purple scroll bar needs to be darker, and probably a color to match the website, not something completely different.
The grey highlight/shadow background of the menu is pixellated too much, would be nice if it was smooth.
Change font. "Times" is overused, "Arial" is easier to read.

The site is help and support for anyone who has been abused.
If you had looked at the pop-ups you would have noticed that one of them is not an advert, it is advice regarding use of the internet(E.G. How do delete history/cache etc.)
This is a must for a site of this nature as there are a lot of people out there with not as much knowledge about computers as you.
Imagine the situation that some child visits the site and then goes off the computer, later the abuser goes on the computer and clicks history. This person now knows that the child has been on the site. DO YOU STILL THINK THAT THIS POP-UP IS A BAD IDEA?? I think not.

Regarding the other pop-up, i have no control over that at present, that is because the site is hosted free, hence the banner at the top of all the pages.
I have to pay to have these removed which i will be doing very soon.

Thanks, I am just going to check the code for the internet warning, I don`t get any message for some reason.
As for the message board, I am working on a new colour scheme.
The pages that pop-up are being changed.
You said 30 seconds loading, can you please tell me what speed your modem is as this should not be as slow as that.
The pages do not store any cache so this maybe something to do with that. Will check that to.

I understand your point, but also consider that windows popping up make things a bit more obvious and attention-grabbing for potential passers-by.

I would be happy to donate some space for this cause. Unfortunately, I can't offer you free hosting for the specific domain name itself, but perhaps with redirects or what-not it might work.

You mention about the pop-up making things obvious for passers by, i have weighed the cons and pros for this window and i think that the pros take preference.
There is a cookie written to only allow the page to be viewed every second day at present, that is being changed to every week.

You also mention about providing free space for the site.
I appreciate this and I am actually in the process of registering a domain name for the site but have no knowledge how you could host it.
If you were to host the site, would i have access to make changes to the pages?

If you could contact me regarding this i would be very grateful.

Hi wullie,

it's a 56.6k normal modem... and with the scripting error... it might just be to do with my laptop..

also, i think it was only that slow cos i had about 20 windows open ok... now with only 7 windows open it only takes around 5 seconds..... its fine

with the pop up windows... it grabs attention to most people.. but some people (myself and a lot of people i know ) it makes me think "not an advert" and i shut it (usually before it's loaded)

maybe pop it up, but also, echo the warning text in the mai window.. just a simple sentence regarding the tracing of where you've been.. then provide a small link... and go to that page...

and just a small thing... maybe you shouldn't have it black and red... these are colours of danger... and hate etc... (subliminal influences) maybe alter the colour scheme a little???? cos these kids/people have been through a lot... that's all ^-^ Seeya!
