Hey - I just finished up the first version of my band's website.

Would you all be so kind as to critique it? I know the pictures on the photos page are too large, but the band members like them like that, unfortunately. I think of large images like that as sloppy. I tried....

Thanks!!!

Hi there,

In IE6, 1024*

First criticism, on the main page you have ENTER MAIN SITE but this is not a link! it should be a link!

Perhaps you might use a lighter font text, it's a bit too 'blocky'

your press page is a bit empty! an iron?

On pages like Journal, you might want to add a little more spacing. there's a lot of text there so you need to make it easier to read. See point 2 re:blocky text

Merchandise totally breaks the consistency of the site. it looks pretty awful, no offence. Any way to merge that with the look of your site? I presume not otherwise you would have tried, but it doesnt look great. Consider opening that page in a new window without the left nav column. It will look a LOT better that way.

Message board also breaks the consistency a little.

Apart from the i think it looks great!! Really good job!

Thanks!

I totally agree with the merchandising page. I am working on a page that loads up the images of the merchandise & links to buy it on my own site, once I find out if I'm allowed to do that or not with that company. If not, then I'm having it open in it's own window.

With the Journal page, how would you add the spacing? Maybe increase the font size? Or just add more spaces between the paragraphs?

And thanks for catching the "ENTER MAIN SITE!" link (lackthereof) I completely forgot to do that in my haste last night!

Anything else? Thanks for the input!

**the press page** - we don't have any press articles yet - it's the best thing one of the band members could think of to fill the space until we have content to put there!

Hi,

Spacing: you could specify the line height, add more space between paragraphs, leave more space above "Episodes", underline the Episode headers. Also some of the bigger paragraphs, break them into 2-3-4 smaller paragraphs.

Merchandise: I doubt that will be allowed, may as well save yourself the trouble and just open it in its own window.

Press page: u got any magazine reviews or something you could put there?? My brothers band just got their first review in Hotpress (the top music mag in Ireland)! Just some useless info for you!

Also, on all the links can you add a title or something, just so we know before we click a link what it does. There isn't even a status bar message.
All links should have titles anyway
eg: title="Lyrics, get the lyrics and tabs to our tracks"
or simple title="Lyrics"

Hope that helps

Great ideas. I'm pretty new to website design, so any input is extremely helpful!

Our band has only played 2 or 3 gigs, so no press yet. Congrat's to your brother! We should get some local University press reviews by the end of this month that we can use.

OH yeah - on the right side where there is blank dark space, I am adding polls intended for feedback from the users.

Any ideas where I can find examples of ASP that allows me to set up polls & graphs?

Thanks!!!

Well you made an excellent start in web design, its a really good looking site, well organised!
make sure to test it in other browsers, I only have IE6 here! :(

Get lots of gigs, as many as possible! it's good to have the site too, start promoting it and getting your name noticed. You'll have those reviews in no time! keep sending out those demo's!

ASP polls etc: I have never used asp but i'm sure you find plenty if you do a quick search on google. there's lots of free ones with PHP or Perl but I have never searched for ASP ones so I dont have any links for you, sorry.

best of luck with the site and the band. I'll go now and download some of your MP3's! :)
