What are SIP Trunks used for and how can I tell what a specific system is using them for?

The CS1k supports 2 types of IP Trunks SIP and H323. These trunks are used in IP Peer networking between Sites. It works by the call leaving the PBX on an SL1 trunk which goes to a SIP Gateway on a Signalling Server (Usually the Leader) the SL1 is incased in SIP then talks to the Network Routing Server (NRS) to ask where the distant Endpoint is for the Digits it has collected, once it has the info it will route the call to the Distant endpoints SIP GW and be stripped of the SIP and enter the distant switch as SL1. You can find your SIP Route by looking in LD21.

Once you have the route number you can see what routes to it. Easiest way is probably LD86 print all DMI, RLI then LD87 print LSC,DSC,TSC then LD90 print all the stuff you use in UK we only really use SPN but eslewhere use alot more. Once you have the capture go to and download the Routing Excel conveter, should make it easy enough.

Most of the major carriers in the US also some form of SIP trunking.

SIP to the carrier allows you to send and recieve calls from the PSTN using SIP trunks.
