We use a BCM50 rls 6 in our office aan have SIP trunks connected and working. However, I'm not happy with the SIP provider and want to change. The new SIP provider I am using is giving me problems in that I can register and get calls in but I can't make calls out. After much trial and error i cantacted the provider who says that the problem is the outgoing number also containc the extension number I am calling from and their server doesn't know what to do with it. They need me to remove the exentsion number. Does anyone know if that is possible and if so how?

Thanks. That was pretty stupid of me. I hadn't thought of that, but thought it was something in the SIP header. That has removed the extn number but it hasn't cured the problem. Back to the drawing board...!

You might need to "play" with the SIP account settings

What exactly do you mean? the OLI is now empty and it had the DN instead of the phone number before?

Do you have the Business Name field filled in under Global/Feature settings?

Thanks for your thoughts. I have done a fair bit of playing with the settings but without success. I now have the SIP provider on board. Having got to a stage where the are no spurious digits being sent out they are looking into it from their end as they can't see why is isn't now working. fingers crossed!

Hi Curlycord. Yes, I took the number out of the OLI so it is now empty. Having said that i've got a feelng that wasn't the problem anyway - see below.

I hadn't tried the business name but we now have a fix! the problem was the BCM50 was sending out its own internal IP address but the SIP provider needed to see their own IP address. So i added that to the local domain and all is now honky dory.

Thanks to all who replied to my question.

SIP programming must be an art as there are so many different ways to get them to work and because of this, there isn't much support from Avaya as they are only interested in IP Office!. Shame!.

Thanks

I am curious though where the setting is.
Was it the in SIP Trunking/Global?
And does it work if that field is blank as well?
or was it under Accounts/basic?

The reason the BCM SIP portion seems complicated/powerfull is because it is geared to almost every country.
SIP carriers sometimes provide FAQ's on different phones/systems on their websites.

Hi Curlycord. The setting is in accounts/basic under SIP domains. There is remote which is automatically populated with the username/IP address for the SIP account and underneath is local. Just add in there either the username or in my case the IP address and it worked!

I've got two SIP accounts on my BCM50. The one I have been using for quite a while was very easy to set up and didn't need anything in the local domain. There is also an option in user accounts to send your own CLI. This works in easy to set up account but not in the other!

As firebird said, there must be an art to setting up these accounts. It remins me of when we used to set up modems. Unless you were a whizz with those that was also a bit of a black art!

Ok thanks, just making sure.

And yes some carriers are a little picky.
I have 3 accounts myself and each opne a little different.
I did a little post on this in our FAQ's page.

Thanks. If you know your way around SIP you might be able to help me with my next problem. I have found that if I use anything other than 0 as a routing digit in the SIP area I get NU even though the BCM monitor says I've dialed the right number. This is with using say a 9 as the routing digit in the routing table. The trouble with that is it means I can't use more than one SIP account. Have you come across this and if so do you know how to sort it?

This is for 2 digit dest codes...
Setup up a Dest code and Route for each SIP account in Dialing Plan
i.e. 91 for Centric and 92 for Sipgate
Absorb set to 0 (the SIP account will do the absorb per below).

SIP trunks - Public - Routing Table
Add the same
Destination digits
91 for Centric account
92 for Sipgate account

Go to Public - Accounts - Advanced
Change the Outbound called characters to 2 (this is where it will absorb the 9X)

Normally you will not see dest codes dialed in Monitor but with this setup you will see the 9X dallied but it will in fact be absorbed in this case.

Click the FAQ's button and look for my FAQ on the bottom for more info.

Hi Curlycord, Thanks for the the faq on SIP trunk setup that should prove very useful.

I've tried your fix for the routing table in the SIP area. I used two and three digits to try it out. With 2 digits I used 61 in the SIP routing table and absorbed 2 digits in Outbound calls in Advanced. I then created a DN prefix of 61 with digit length of 12. Finally I created a dest code of 61 in the routing table, pointed it a route 1 and made it public unknown and absorbed no digits. When I tried it with two digits a got 'protocol error' and when I tried with three digits (using 3 digits -622 - I made the relevant adjustments in all areas) I got 'no route to destination'. I've tried it on 2 different BCM50 both running release 6 but get the same result. Any ideas?

Hi Curlycord, I've got it sorted!! I actually have both accounts working using a single digit access code which suits me best. I think the problem was the DN length in public networks. I thought I had it set for sufficient digits but possibly didn't. I didn't realise until this exercise how important that area is and your comments in your faq highlighted that fact so thanks very much.

I've also configured up the two SIP accounts that "teltech317" was trying to get to work and I was able to dial out OK, using the DN Type = Public (unknown)in the Dial Plan routing area.
