I have been asked to look into adding more T1 capacity for incoming/outgoing calls, is anyone using SIP trunks with traditional pri lines? Looking for price and reliability comparisons.
I realize I will have to buy some more equipment for the SIP trunks but am curios on which way to proceed.

Why not just add an additional pri?

I may, just looking for options. This will be used for emergency call capacity only and I thought SIP trunks monthly cost were based on usage.

Thanks

SIP trunks will take some hardware and some not-fun programming to set up. You might have to wait for a new PRI to get dropped off but you might be trying to program an SBC, Session Manager, and CM for a while if you haven't done it before. If you go that route it might be worth your while to find a vendor with expertise with setting up SIP on CM.

Sip will cost you big $ to roll out so stay with a pri for now.

You can put a gateway in like an adtran and deliver PRI to the PBX and SIP on the backend. a good amount of providers are doing this anyways.
