Has anyone had any experience with doing SIP trunks over the public Internet? Accordning to Global Crossing there are a couple of customers doing this today, but there does not appear to be anything documented about exactaly how they are doing it. Configuration notes for SES would be most helpful.

I've seen where Global Crossing sells you a router that converts SIP to a T1 trunk. This is all done over the public internet. The cost is really low, but the quality is terrible. You get what you pay for...

I have been doing the SIP to T1 Trunk conversion type for near 2 years now and I haven't had too many problems. We worked with the vendor for a while to try to get the SES to work, but we weren't able to get it to work. I gave up due to workload issues and moved on. I do have another vendor who wants to try, and will give me 90 days free service once it works. I just haven't had the time to spend to get it done.

So in my experience, this is a great solution for those looking to cut expenses, as long as you have a fat pipe for your internet connection.
