I'm having a really hard time trying to determine what the minimum release of software is that will support SIP trunking on the BCM50.

I have one at release 1 that I know will not support it. I can't even generate keycodes for them. I thought release 2 would be ok but I can't find any documentation that sprecifically says so. Do I need to go to release 3?

We just want to have sip trunking between systems (a 50 and a 400 Rel 4.0). No sip phones at all.

What do I need out of the sip provider or do we even need one? Documentation is very scarce on this and what is available is confusing.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the only true workable SIP trunking your going to get is BCM50 3.0 to BCM50 3.0/CS1000 with NRS.

BCM 50 R2 will support SIP.
We had a problem with parked calls and transfers put system to H.323 and problem went away.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm still no further ahead on this though. I work for a vendor and notr even our SE's know how to answer. Asked Nortel too and they are useless. We know more than they do.

I guess I'll just have to try and see if I can get it to work. IF I'm successful I will reply to this post with the solution.

If you want it to work use H323 as cook1082 said.As i remember on the bcm 400 the keycode can be use for SIP or H323 while on the bcm50 you have one keycode for SIP and one keycode for H323.So if you didnt generate the keycode on your bcm50 have it replaced by H323 instead.

Thanks gberger. You're correct. In the 400 under voip protocol you can select either H323 or SIP but I certainly don't recall having that option on the 50.

In my case, the system is currently a release 1 and KRS won't even let you generate a keycode for SIP. Sales rep has ordered a 1.0 to 2.0 upgrade and I think I'll suggest replacing the SIP with H323 codes to make my life simpler.

Thanks again everyone.
