Hey everyone...
Well here is my issue, I am in the process of setting up my first SIP trunks. This is a completely new area for me, and have to be honest I am lost. I definitely need some help on this, I don't even know where to start.

Who is the carrier?

SHK Certified (School of Hard Knocks)
NCSS, ATSP/IP

The provider is nextiva.

they provided me with 3 items, one they said was an offkey, one that was an offname and then an IP address.

okay, what they sent me was the Authentication name and Authentication Key

you need to try at least something before asking for help so what did you do so far?

Joe W.

FHandw, ACSS

Rodney yes I am still in need of help. I have been trying everything I can, and so far nextiva's techs haven't been able to figure it out either.

I have placed their domain in the SIP Line tab under ITSP Domain name it is checked to in service

Transport Tab - ITSP Proxy Address - set to their domain
Network Topology info set to Lan 1
Calls route via Register is checked.

SIP URI - Channel 1 everything set to Use Credentials User Name

SIP Credentials - User name and Auth name both set to what was given as Auth name
Password set to what was given as Auth Key

rhawkins, you're still somewhat vague as to where you're problem currently lies.

-Does the line register?
-Can you make calls?
-Can you receive calls?

In order for a line to register to a domain name (like abc.com), the IPO needs DNS servers to resolve that domain name, to be entered under the system tab. Have you verified the line actually registers with Nextiva?

To make calls, you need to properly set up your ARS. For SIP this there's a different syntax compared to ISDN or analogue.

To receive calls, it's important to set up your SIP URI's the correct way, and also your incoming call routes. If you set the URI to line 1, you basic 'out of the box' ICR will not work.

NLPeterK, are you the PeterK i know :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

NLPeterK, no the line does not register.

As for vague, that is my point, I have never done anything with SIP Trunks, and so therefore have no idea what all is needed.

What version is your IPO running?
This is important because there are major differences between versions.

BAZINGA!

tlpeter this is on an R8, it is one of our Demo kits that we are trying to get this working on.

@rhawkins74: Going to be pretty tough to explain then. I don't know Nextiva, which could require some different settings than the providers I'm used to.

But I'll try!

Did you put in DNS servers? Did you put the proper ip routes in the system?

Fire up your monitor and trace the SIP packets. Is there a response to the REGISTER message sent to Nextiva?

I was never given any dns servers to put in. And yes I have the IP routes in the system

Well you're programming the box, who do you expect to have given you those dns servers?! :p

Just put your ISP's DNS in, or if you can't find those Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

I believe it is registering now, We purchased to trunks from nextiva, so under SIP URI would I need to have added 2 channels?

when I try to make a call I receive call rejected.

And as for the DNS yeah duh... hey it isnt even 5am here...:)

You need to program sip uri's otherwise it won't work.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

well, I thought it was registering, it wasnt showing registration failed in monitor, but in system status it is saying not registered.

ughh... and this is why I would much rather recommend PRI's as an alternative to POTS
