Hey guys.

I'm in the middle of a SIP implementation and i don't know what i should use for a STUN Server.

I do have the lic and i do have configure the SIP Line and the ARS Field.

So, can i use the default IP address for a stun or should i ask my ITSP to provide me the IP of it's own Stuns?

Can i use any of those free STUNS i found on Google? Can you recommend any?

Thanks in advance...

SIP trunk provider has to provide the STUN server IP address and that is what we should use.

what about if i use those that i can find on Google for free? is it going to play?

Why would you want to?

SIP providers provide the STUN, setup sip line, tick run on startup and save and reboot the kit, if it works it will configure the settings for you if not it will give you possible clues as to why you cant make calls on your sip lines depending on what NAT Type / Firewall it give you back

then go and play with your firewall and routing etc and see if you can get it to work..

you would have no reason to use a different stun

kokolatas,
see ultimately the SIP service provider IS very much there in the picture, right? so just as they have asterisk etc. based SIP servers (which basically means gatekeeper) they have STUN servers if reqd. so best to their resource bcoz at least you dont have to configure it..
very much like DNS servers provided by ISPs.

i just got in touch with my ITSP and they said they don't have Stun Server.

is it ok if i try one of the free Stuns Ip's i can find on Google?
I just need to know before i go onsite for implementation.
thanks.

if i am not wrong it is *not* a must to use or configure STUN server. it is require in case you have an issue due to UDP datagrams in the presence of NAT/behind firewall.

you might try working on UDP ports being allowed thru your devices first.

there is not complete standardization for STUN it is best to use ITSP's implementation.

i know, to ask you to reconsider or changing your ITSP is not a solution!

ok,let's say the case is to change my ITSP. i have never implement SIP in the past and i don't know who's the best for IP Office. Can anyone suggest me a few ITSP's?

I had the same issue. However, heres what I did: Instead of ticking RUN STUN ON SYSTEM START UP, I simply pressed RUN STUN botton. And guess what: after a few mins (aprox 2 mins) the system found me the exact information need for it to work. It found the public IP Address, Public port and Restricted Cone NAT. I reebooted the system and it happens to work with more availability. We are running our SIP trunk with 10 channels enabled( G711 MU law codec) and we use NET Virtua as our Broadband Internet provider (half-Duplex 12000 KBPS of Download transmission and 800KBPS of Upload transmission). Our phone line is more available now. Its performance will run more smoothly as the BroadBand companies here in Sao Paulo, Brasil, offer more competitive prices.
I hope that can help you solve your issues.

99% of the time using the default STUN server is just fine. You only use it to verify that your firewall/NAT setup is correct.

sorry, i forgot to reply.

I went for on site support (before Easter)and yes i did use the default STUN IP Address and after the PBX reboot it was just all fine.
So, thanks again...

Ps...FYI
on the Nat Type field i used the 'Unknown' and after the 'RUN STUN' process it was automatically replaced by the NAT type STUN discovered...So don't worry about what you should write down on that field...
(this is for the guys who have never implemented SIP Trunking before...just like i was some weeks ago.LoL!!!)

Thanks Kyle. That was just what I needed. Heres a star.

Although I guess it is because I come off as such an a$$ most of the time that people don't want to give me one :)
