Hi all,

I have a school that is using the page all feature to make emergency announcements through the phone speakers though out the school. They would like this page all feature to extend to the Auditorium and to two locations outside. Has anybody integrated SIP speakers to the IP Office? What brand/model did you use? Outdoor rated SIP speakers?

Thanks

Derek

I've never installed a SIP speaker myself, but it should integrate just the same as and third party SIP device. Personally I prefer analog speakers.

I have used without any problems
Algo 8180 SIP Speaker
the 8188 is a ceiling speaker.

I've used Algo 8180 SIP alerters, they work great.

BUT, you're not going to be able to integrate that type of SIP speaker with an all-call page through the telephone speakers at the same time. Reason: SIP extensions must ANSWER the call placed to them, and then couple the audio to the amplifier/speaker. An all-call paging group on an IP Office is just going to open up the audio path to multiple telephone sets to broadcast the page.

You need some type of gateway that can accept audio input from an analog station port programmed as a paging port and then multicast to the SIP paging speakers. A gateway that interfaces to FXS or FXO isn't going to work, neither is a gateway that is a SIP extension in and of itself.

We have used the Algo 8180's in an all call group with the phones it works fine. You have to change 3rd Party Auto Answer in the Extensions VOIP Tab to "Answer After

In earlier versions enter SIP_Allow_Page in the user Source Number. I cant remember wheat version it changed.

Be careful using a PBX for emergency paging in schools. Not saying you cannot or shouldn't but phones end up unplugged, on DND, volume turned down low, etc..... Schools really need a stand alone PA system for EMERGENCY announcements.

Myself, and Cost Plus and Meijer use what is called a SNOM PA1.

A SNOM PA1 acts like a SIP phone, but is just a paging module, you mount next to your amplifier. You'd need to buy a third party SIP license (if you don't have one already) to run a non Avaya SIP Phone.

Simple setup:
1- Plug Snom PA1 into a network switch near the amplifier

2A- If you have a separate amplifier such as a TOA or Bogen, that you could run into the auditorium area, Run a RCA cable from the Snom's Audio Output to an unbalanced RCA input on the amplifier (same as a CD player or MP3 player input or record player, haha)

2B- Use the external speaker output on the SNOM PA1 to tie into any PA speakers, the SNOM doesn't require you to use SIP speakers.

3-Set the Snom up on the IP Office and on the Snom gui by accessing it via the DHCP IP address your system assigns it. (when the SNOM is Plugged into the amplifer, there is a button you can press and the IP address of the unit will broadcast across the PA system to let you know it's IP address)

4-Once the phone is setup, dial the extension such as 301 or whatever extension you assign.

5-A tone will broadcast and then you can page. (If interested I can tell you how to turn the tone off) You will hear the most incredibly clear telephone system page you've ever heard. I cannot believe the audio quality, it sounds like hearing the PA system at Soldier Field during a Bears game.

A friend who works for Meijer told me that when they replaced their older Bogen system with these SNOM PA1's the 200,000 square foot store paging sounded extremely clear and just plain beautiful.

Additionally you can set up a short code to access the extension.

It's that simple.

Hey Amriddle, you are in the UK right? You guys don't page in your retail stores, if I remember what you have said in the past. It's a North American thing?

Thanks RLSbutton. Will the SNOM PA1 work at the same time as all the other phones during a Page All?

Oh wait, I should have read the information above better.

So, this unit is a SIP phone, programmed to automatically answer when a call comes into it, that opens the phone for broadcasting a page.

Is it possible to create and combine a short code for the Page All and dialing the SNOM PA1 extension at the same time?

Have not found one yet.
The SNOM usually requires a page on its own

In this application, you can use two Valcom VIP801A units as a paging bridge. One is connected to IPO analog station port as if were a typical amplifier or page adapter. This unit "receives" the page audio. The second unit or units are placed at the endpoint(s) and will send audio out to an amplifier or self-amplified horns. With this scenario, you can use classic paging with IP-based audio transport for those far-reaching locations.

The Snom works just like the Algo. Enter "Answer After" in the 3rd Party Auto Answer and you can use it with the paging short code.

I tried creating a short code that would allow me to dial *631 for paging and 4545 to reach the SNOM PA1 at the same time. Not working yet.

Is there a way to enter multiple numbers in the short code “telephone number field?” 4545 is actually an the SNOM PA1 extension on a remote pbx system sip trunked to the IP Office. I am guessing the IP office won’t let you dial both the group paging *631 and 4545 outbound sip connection to the external sip box system at the same Time??

Currently if I dial 4545 by itself, I can access paging on the remote system via the sip trunk. Just not sure I can combine dialing the two at the same time in a short code.

Greg, can you elaborate on what you wrote above? Is what you are saying a way to make this work?
