Where can we get a softphone or client for SIP compatible with Siemens HiPath 4000?
I tried using Yate Client, but a lot of features are not available. Any other suggestions that would work?
I am using Jitsi and having good results with it. It allows me to enable presence, but I have not used any of the video stuff with it or freaky levels of security so I can't comment on that.
Can Jitsi be installed even without Admin Acces on the PC? Coz Yate can. Workstations in our organization do not have admin auth. How about the interface? If your were to rate it 1 to 10, how much would you give?
The Yate interface is not able to display the NAME of the caller, only the number. What about in Jitsi?
I'm not sure about the admin access thing honestly, because in order to do my job they have me setup with admin access on all the workstations. It may not - you would have to give it a shot and see if it complains. Usually in my experience most of what needs Admin access for the install is the prerequisite Microsoft crap like NET Framework and visual C runtime stuff.
As for the interface, I find it not bad. For my needs it doesn't have to be rocket science. I have my contacts in the directory and choose one and then click a little green handset icon and away I go. The keypad is easy to access if you need to sign in to a conference, and when done you just hit the little red handset to hang up. The menus and setup options are the standard click a main topic and then edit the items under it as desired. It supports lots of different codecs and protocols, and will allow you to configure other types of accounts and protocols besides just SIP, including registrationless SIP where you can be your own provider for in-house chat, etc.
I basically use it to sign in to webconferences and stuff using my headset, and other minor calling functions, but it has a ton of different things you can make it do.
As far as the caller-id information displayed, that will depend on your trunking configuration, telco provider and a number of other variables. I don't get incoming calls on it, so I don't have a good answer for that.
I just skimmed the install instructions and it doesn't appear that you need admin rights.
