I know of course that IPO 56xx sets are H323, but do the calls shuffle if calls are made from IP Phone to SIP Trunk so not to use VCM resources?

it does not matter if the ipphone uses a analog trunk or a digital trunk or a h323 trunk or a sip trunk
it will always use a vcm channel

so the answer is no

Actually tlpeter, that may not be true. I've tested this (using Callcentric as my ISP). When calling from an IP phone, it did not use a VCM Channel at all). From a TDM set, it used 2 then 1 upon completion.

TDM - IP will always use a vcm channel.

so, IP over alog, isdn etc will always use a vcm channel.

IP over SIP may not, the views here vary, certainly the theory is it shouldnt if using direct media path and also using a codec the SIp provider supports.
