I dont know much about VOIP so I am taking a class. Our instructor showed us how on his system he can use a open source SIP client on his laptop to register with his phone switch while out of town and both his phone and laptop ring when called. It looked pretty neat. I know avaya has the softphone software that works similar but I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a generic sip client like he did.

Or if not if its something that is in the works. I have a 406 version 4.0.18

Thanks

IP Office 4.018 is not a valid version, must be 4.0.5 or 4.0.7.
Also the IP Office does not support SIP phones, only SIP trunks can be used.
I have not seen any recent roadmaps but i don't think IP Office is going to have SIP phones for the upcoming two years and by then IP Office maybe ancient and replaced with something new ( software switch? )

Your right its 4.0.7 sorry about that.

Thanks for the answer though.

I thought SIP endpoints were on the road map for 4.2 (next summer????)

IPO being replaced!!!!-is anyone willing to start a tread on this and get peoples opinions??? anyone fancy a wager on 54xx 56xx phones being licensed on a ACM and the IPO becoming part of the ACM???

Dangerous ground me thinks.
