Dear Techs,

I have a TDE-600 that I would like to extend with SIP extension. I would like to allow sip softphone (on a smartphone) to connect with our TDE-600 over the internet. Unfortunately, those smartphones can't connect via VPN with our PBX. Is there a way to allow sip extension over the internet and through our Meraki MX firewall to talk with the Panasonic TDE?

Thanks for your suggestion

Norbert

Thanks for the reply. Is there a another affordable way to use remote sip extension over the internet without setting up a vpn on the smartphone?

the tde will not support sip or ip without a vpn. the NS is the only Panasonic system that will support this.

+1 on VPN, even the NS i strongly sugest it.

what is your goal for the smartphones?

is it located everyware and nowhare? or yust at an building (work) so they have wifi?
if so build VPN for your wifi for smartphones, connect to internal PBX, ones they leave its over ( u need good coverage wifi whit QoS for your phones VoIP)

ok, here is the background of my question: We have a Meraki MX80 Router that can handle two internet connection. Our main internet connection is on a VSAT system. The MX80 just allows on one channel the VPN traffic - and in my case it is over the VSAT. Our second internet connection comes from a sea cable. The traffic is limited and expensive, but less latency (instead of 1.5 sec only 120msec). All VOIP traffic from the PBX (like international voip trunks) is routed over the second internet link. We also have a PRI trunk to a local phone provider.
Now I have people in remote location living that have only a small internet connection. I would like to allow them to connect via SIP to our PBX. They should be able to talk to other extension on the PBX and also be able to access the PRI trunk to do local phone calls in country.
The people in the remote location don't have routers that support VPN and also our Meraki router don't allow a VPN connection over the second internet link.
My question now is: How can I allow remote sip extension, without spending money (that we don't have - we are a donation funded NGO)? Is there a software that I could install on our PBX site in order to keep it protected from hacking, but still allowing access without vpn?

Again, thanks your your time to helping me

You have posted a few times about not using the media gateway and only a VPN.This is not practical in real applications, I have one on my phone and can use it any where and on anyones network.
if set up correctly it is as save as a vpn.
you will need a good router, program the nat sip port to anything but the default and do a port translation.
put a strong username and password ( use a random 16 digit generator) on the sip client and only have ones you use enabled.

@PNGTech,

In your case you would need some media server to allow this, the only media server I know for the panasonic is for ip phones and not sip.
without a media server like the one built in to the NS700/1000 it is not safe to do as you would have to open the ports that are known to the open web. you would need a router that can do sip natting,
Most smart phones are able to do vpns, you will need a router that can support multi VPN's

I just want to come back to my question: Even it is dangerous, but I would like to try it out. Which ports to I need to open for the sip extension?

Thanks

Norbert
