SIP across private p-p T1 with Adtran 3200 routers

I'm trying to run Altigen IP710 phones and/or AltiView with IPTalk across a point to point T1 that has Adtran NetVanta 3200 routers on it. I've disabled the firewall and removed the SIP helper in the NetVanta, and I can log in the phone and the AltiView, but I can't initiate nor receive, so the SIP is being blocked somehow. Does anyone know what settings to check/change to enable SIP across this private link?
